The Old and The New
There’s a new kitten at the Coffman household. What was I thinking?! I’ve never thought of myself as a cat person. I’ve always thought of myself as more of a dog lover. Jokes about becoming “the cat lady” torment me, but alas, here she is. Bella is her name and she was a gift to my aging cat as a companion while I’m off working or traveling. She’s very cute and lovable, but she’s also a kitten that gets into everything and anything. Even while I type this she is walking across my keyboard, climbing over my shoulder and playing with my hair. So fun, but so annoying.
Contrast this small bundle of energy with my old girl, Jewels. She was dropped off on my door step over 18 years ago and she has been my trusted companion through the years. Her consistent willingness to cuddle and comfort has been my salvation through the challenges of life.
People can be like that too. Some will annoy the dickens out of you and others will tenderly be there for you in times of need. Some will be dedicated and others will run off to find the next shinny thing. Some will ignore you while others will pounce on you when you least expect it. No two are the same and not everyone deserves to be brought home. The rare one will be with you through the hard times. The best ones offer you comfort and care and are one-in-a-million. It’s up to you to figure out who they are and accept them as they are.
12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:12-13
